Cannabis Packaging Goes High-Tech
LeafyPack accelerates cannabis industry maturity with expansion into robotics, AI, and vision systems.

It’s not every day that we at Packaging Strategies write about cannabis packaging, and we usually don’t shine the spotlight on a single company when focusing on a particular market. However, we couldn’t help but be impressed by the breadth and scope of LeafyPack’s utilization of robotics, AI, and vision systems when it comes to cannabis packaging.
“Cannabis packaging systems have historically relied on manual, labor-intensive processes, but the landscape is rapidly evolving,” LeafyPack notes. “Automation technologies that have long driven efficiency and quality in traditional sectors are now being adopted by forward-thinking operators, and LeafyPack is at the forefront of that transformation.”
The company adds: “Each new system introduced by LeafyPack integrates AI-driven vision, robotic precision, and data intelligence, enabling cannabis producers to optimize throughput, reduce labor costs, and ensure consistent, compliant output at scale.”

The Spyder Pick and Place Joint Robot uses AI vision to sort and pack pre-rolls with accuracy.
At the center of LeafyPack’s expansion is the Spyder Pick and Place Joint Robot, a machine capable of detecting and classifying pre-rolls by quality, then autonomously picking and placing them into tins, jars, or tubes to complete the end-of-line packaging process.
The Robopacker builds on this innovation by combining multiple automation functions into a single compact unit, integrating a case erector, vision system, and pick-and-place robotics to streamline case packing.

Robopacker is a compact, all-in-one robotic case-packing system that merges vision, robotics, and automated case erection into one unit.
For end-of-line efficiency, the Cobot Palletizer introduces collaborative robotics to the cannabis industry, safely and precisely stacking finished cases while reducing repetitive strain on human operators.
LeafyPack’s next generation of pouching systems also advances with the Rotobagger Gen 2 and Ecovape Premade Poucher, both enhanced with AI-driven product counters and adaptive servo controls to deliver unmatched efficiency, sustainability, and product accuracy.

The Ecovape Premade Poucher is designed for the cannabis industry to efficiently pack cylindrical products like vape pens, cartridges, and batteries into pre-made pouches.
“The cannabis industry is entering a new phase of sophistication, where automation and robotics are no longer optional but essential,” said Jonathan Ballard, Vice President of LeafyPack. “We are seeing the same transformation that the food, pharma, and CPG sectors experienced decades ago. Automation, robotics, and AI are the tools that will help cannabis operators reach that same level of consistency, compliance, and scale.”
By introducing these technologies, LeafyPack aims to enable producers to achieve parity with mainstream packaging, where robotics and vision systems are standard tools for precision, traceability, and quality assurance.
“Our mission has always been to help operators future-proof their operations,” Ballard said. “These systems are built for scalability, not just solving today’s bottlenecks but preparing businesses for what’s next: data-driven production, predictive maintenance, and AI-assisted optimization. Every system we design is meant to evolve with our customers as their needs grow.”
