Waterless EB Offset Presents Sustainable Solution for Flexible Packaging

Chemosvit and Toray revealed a new mono-material pouch with a barrier function film printed by waterless EB offset — which not only reduces CO₂ emissions but can also contributes to the circular economy. This technology is working without solvents. According to Toray’s estimation, its CO₂ emissions are more than 80% below those from gravure printing. On top of it, it enables a 100% VOC- free process. Furthermore, as offset plates are made of aluminum, they can be recycled.

Full Wrap Labeler for Random Weight Products

MULTIVAC introduced its new conveyor belt labeler, which enables full wrap labeling and can be used for random weight products. Called the L 312 model, the company says it is intended for retail packs of high-quality meat and fish products that are often sold based on their weight. Once the product is weighed, the price is calculated, and the information then printed onto the label. The L 312 makes the automatic C and D labelling of packs possible at speeds up to 120 per minute. It can also be integrated into lines or used as a stand-alone solution with manual product infeed.

Fully Recyclable Barrier Paper

Cortec announced EcoShield Barrier Paper, a fully recyclable barrier paper that does not rely on plastic coatings for moisture resistance. EcoShield Barrier Paper demonstrates a Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) comparable to polycoated paper. This rate refers to the amount of water vapor able to pass through a square meter of paper in one hour. EcoShield Barrier Paper is a USDA Certified Biobased Product. It contains 65% USDA certified biobased content and is a qualified product under the mandatory federal purchasing initiative of the USDA BioPreferred Program.

Predictive Maintenance Capabilities for M&L Catchweighers

WIPOTEC-OCS, a manufacturer and supplier of precision in-motion weighing, track and trace/anti-counterfeiting solutions and X-Ray scanning equipment, introduced new predictive maintenance functions for its line of high-precision catchweighers. The analytics-driven solution allows parcel processors to proactively predict when its catchweighers will need maintenance, resulting in well-planned tune-ups that can minimize downtime. The HC-FL-T can accurately weigh up to 19,000 parcels/hr at transport speeds up to 3.4 m/s (670 ft/min). The use of a high-tech electro-magnetic force restoration (EMFR) weigh cell delivers NTEP weighing accuracy of 50g even when running at top speed.

Die-Cut Lids for New Dog Treats Line

Chadwicks announced that it is supplying die-cut lidding to Yarde Farm for their new plant-based, dog friendly iced treats which are being marketed under the Barke Farms brand. The 85.7-millimeter diameter lids feature six color design with pin dot embossing. “There is a big demand for iced treats for dogs,” says Mike Gibson, managing director of Yarde Farms.
