Squirt Cycling Products Offers Tire Sealant in Pouch Packaging

Replacing 150mm plastic bottle packaging, Squirt SEAL Tire sealant will now be sold in a smaller, lighter and easier to use laminate pouch.

The new 120ml Easyfill pouch is made from a flexible laminate, making it durable enough for riders to toss in a travel bag or toolbox, and it's 33% lighter than the outgoing bottle.

Squirt’s sealant uses BeadBlock technology to seal holes up to 6mm in diameter. The latex sealant contains microfibers and BeadBlock Granules, which help mechanically seal larger punctures.

The new pouch package slides over any standard Presta valve for spill-free top-ups, and is marked in milliliters so consumers know how much sealant is being put in the tire.

Morinaga America, Inc. Announces U.S. Launch of Energy Gel Drink In Pouch

The debut of Chargel, a new line of athletic gel drinks that help deliver immediate pre-workout energy anywhere and anytime. Chargel gel drinks feature an exclusive blend of carbohydrates, fruit juice and five essential B vitamins without any artificial sweeteners or high fructose corn syrup.

Unlike many energy products that rely on high-levels of caffeine for energy, Chargel is 100% caffeine-free and offers instant energy in the form of carbohydrates and 20% daily value of five essential vitamins, including niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, B12 and B6. These B vitamins may help support the conversion of carbohydrates into the fuel you need.

“All athletes want to perform at their best, but not all energy is created equal,” says Teruhiro Kawabe, president of Morinaga America, Inc. “Gel drinks have exploded in popularity among active individuals in Japan, and we saw a huge opportunity in the United States to introduce this fresh take on energy.”

Chargel is a delightfully unexpected way to energize before activity and has the added benefits of speed and portability because of its unique pouch format.

Green Science Alliance Developed Rechargeable Aluminum Sulfur Battery Pouch Cell

Green Science Alliance has been developing various types of next-generation rechargeable battery technologies such as lithium sulfur battery, lithium rich cathode, silicon type anode, all solid-state lithium ion battery, etc. Also it has developed a rechargeable aluminum air battery in the past.  However, due to its complicated structure and unstable aluminum reduction reaction of aluminum ion to aluminum metal in the electrolyte, it was difficult to achieve commercialization.

This time, Dr. Ryohei Mori and Mr. Hiromichi Itani have developed an actual aluminum sulfur battery pouch cell with aluminum anode, ionic liquid or deep eutectic solvent based electrolyte and carbon-sulfur composite cathode. The cell capacity was approximately 950 mAhg-1 at the beginning, but deteriorated to 200 mAhg-1 after 100 cycles, under 0.025 C at room temperature. Therefore, cyclability needs to be improved. In addition, cell voltage and applied current are lower than that of a lithium ion battery. The open circuit voltage of the prepared aluminum sulfur battery pouch cell was approximately 0.9 V. Even still, cell capacity is much larger especially at the beginning and an aluminum sulfur battery can be safer and cheaper than a lithium ion battery.

Mondi Outlines How Packaging Can Make Homecare More Sustainable

One key step in Mondi’s approach is to explore opportunities to reduce material use in favor of more sustainable alternatives — related to the packaging as well as the product itself. This can be seen in a collaboration between Mondi and UK supermarket chain Tesco where the companies worked together to develop a fully recyclable mono-material pouch for Tesco’s dishwasher tablets.

Another approach is to replace plastic packaging with paper or biobased alternatives. Mondi’s Functional Barrier Paper is a range of recyclable paper-based packaging with tailored barrier properties that reduces the amount of plastic used and provides moisture and vapor-proof packaging.

For the home & personal care industry, in particular, the use of post-consumer recycled material is an effective alternative that reduces the reliance on fossil-based primary resources. A large number of resin producers are currently investing in additional mechanical recycling facilities that will increase the availability of materials, while chemical recycling can address hard to recycle plastics and provide much needed post-consumer resins suitable for food application.

A refill option, meanwhile, is perfect for ensuring that where plastic does need to be used, it is created well then refilled and reused for a long time. Mondi has worked with market leader Henkel to create a lightweight, recyclable refill pouch for its dishwashing liquid, which can then be decanted into its 100% recycled PET pump dispenser. This move helps Henkel consumers reduce plastic by 70%.
