At present, the bottles are the only kind of plastic food packaging in Switzerland that can be recycled and reprocessed in a closed cycle.

With immediate effect, selected milk and cream products sold under Coop’s own brands are available in more environmentally sound PET bottles, along with various Emmi branded products such as Emmi Energy Milk. At present, it is the only kind of plastic food packaging in Switzerland that can be recycled and reprocessed in a closed cycle. The launch of this packaging innovation represents another step towards the attainment of sustainability goals as both companies seek to establish a circular economy.

As of now, Coop brand products and numerous Emmi branded goods are available on the market in recyclable PET bottles. Coop milk and cream along with various Emmi brands such as Emmi Energy Milk High Protein and Comella Choco Drink have switched to the sustainable packaging solution.

The new bottle made of white PET is a packaging innovation. The opaque bottle offers optimum product protection as well as consistency of taste. In the future, the bottles will be used to manufacture new PET bottles that can be used again for milk and dairy products. Compared to their polyethylene predecessors, PET bottles will result in a significant reduction in transport as well as material usage in future.

The familiar PET symbol appears on the recyclable milk and dairy product bottles to remind buyers how to dispose of them. Across Switzerland, these bottles – and any beverage bottles made of PET — can be returned to any PET collection point and thereby fed back into the cycle. Throughout the launch phase, Coop and Emmi will be informing their customers by placing clear labels on the new packaging.

Several Bumble Bee Tuna Pouches Lined Up

Bumble Bee Seafoods' New Packaging Wins 'Best Package Design' at Chief Marketer's Pro Awards

Bumble Bee Seafoods has been on a brand reinvention journey, working to inspire consumers everywhere to eat well no matter what. That includes the development of a new brand identity and packaging design, recently announced as the winner of Chief Marketer's 2023 Pro Award for Best Package Design.

Created by PKG Brand Design, the new brand logo connects directly to the Bumble Bee company heritage. The original Bumble Bee Cannery sat on Pier 39, one of the most dangerous capes on the mouth of the Columbia River, near Astoria, Oregon, where many ships were lost. A lighthouse was built to guide those ships in safely, lighting the way forward, like the Bumble Bee brand does for the category.

"Recognizing the nature of an aging category, Bumble Bee Seafoods has worked to stand out against a literal sea of sameness with a focus on appealing to the next generation. Our new pouch design, complete with modern recipes that jump off the page and QR links to recipes, helped to improve purchase intent in consumer testing" said Dana Kowal, Brand Marketing Director at Bumble Bee. "Once they give us a try, they quickly see that our flavored tuna pouches are the best tasting out there."

The new brand identity and package design can be found on grocery store shelves now, including the three most recent flavor additions to the growing line of Bumble Bee Wild-Caught Tuna Pouches - Applewood Smoke, Teriyaki, and Mediterranean Herbs & Spices. This packaging also includes new callouts to highlight key health and convenience benefits like protein and no draining required.

Treetop Biopak Unveils Compostable Bags for Bread and Bakery Goods

In response to the increasing environmental concerns surrounding packaging waste in the fresh bread market, Treetop Biopak has introduced a groundbreaking solution with its new home compostable bags.

Treetop Biopak's innovation recognizes the environmental impact of millions of plastic bread bags used daily by consumers and food service providers. It aims to address the challenges of sustainability within the bakery industry.

Unlike conventional plastic bags, which often end up in landfill or are incinerated due to low recycling rates, Treetop Biopak's compostable bags offer a sustainable end-of-life solution. The bags are designed to compost once discarded correctly, not leaving any microplastics or pollutants behind, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fresh bakery products packaging.

Through rigorous testing, Treetop Biopak's compostable bags demonstrated impressive shelf-life results, including 7-10 days with sliced bloomer and sourdough bread. The bags, supplied on wickets, also showed excellent machinability when integrated into automatic bread bagging lines, ensuring smooth and efficient operations for bakeries and manufacturers.

In addition to fresh bread, the high barrier compostable material has been successfully tested on flow wrapping machines with morning goods and bakery products such as pancakes and small cakes. These trials further confirm the versatility of the material, proving its effectiveness in various bakery applications while maintaining the necessary shelf life.

“We are committed to enabling clients to balance their quality and performance with consumer requirements for compostable solutions to reduce waste plastic,” said Treetop Biopak founder Amir Gross. “This allows a whole range of goods to maintain their freshness, ensure the required shelf life, while minimizing any impact on the environment.”
