Maria and Ricardo’s Embraces Roots with New Tortilla Packaging

The new design features festive colors and a radial design, which is an homage to the brand’s Mexican heritage.

Since starting as a small tortillaria in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, over 35 years ago, Maria and Ricardo’s has become a pioneering brand in the tortilla market, producing 1 million tortillas a day at their Canton warehouse. Though they are steeped in history, they continue to innovate, and are now establishing themselves as a leader in the alternative, better-for-you tortilla market with gluten-free, keto, and dairy-free options.

In honor of their roots, and in celebration of their commitment to innovation, Maria and Ricardo’s recently launched their new packaging just ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15).

“After eight years of our iconic packaging design, Maria and Ricardo's Tortillas embarked on a branding and packaging upgrade with a clear vision in mind,” said Elena Ancira, Marketing Manager, Maria and Ricardo’s. “Our previous packaging had served us well, but it was time for a fresh perspective.”

The new design features festive colors and a radial design, which is an homage to the brand’s Mexican heritage, along with a bolder logo, a more cohesive look across all product lines, enhanced messaging, and easy navigation of certifications and dietary information.

“We aimed to create a bolder and more eye-catching appearance on store shelves, ensuring that our products would instantly capture the attention of shoppers,” continued Ancira. “Moreover, this update provided us with the opportunity to celebrate the rich Mexican heritage that has always been at the heart of our brand, infusing our packaging with cultural elements that resonate with our customers. This redesign also allowed us to achieve a more cohesive and unified look across all our product lines, creating a stronger brand identity that reflects our commitment to quality and authenticity.”
