Mondi Launches New Kraft Paper Designed for Industrial and Consumer Packaging

Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible has been developed as a high-performance base paper for coated and heat sealable packaging solutions.

Mondi has launched Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible, an innovative kraft paper that combines exceptional strength, extensibility, high puncture resistance and a smooth surface. Designed for industrial and consumer packaging applications, the new paper enables reliable protection and efficient converting — all while ensuring excellent printing and coating performance.

Positioned between traditional sack kraft paper and machine-finished kraft paper grades, Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible has been developed as a high-performance base paper for coated and heat sealable packaging solutions. Its calendered surface ensures excellent coating coverage and adhesion. At the same time, its smooth surface delivers superior printability — a clear advantage over natural brown papers with rougher surface textures.

The substrate was engineered over a three-year development period by Mondi’s kraft paper specialists, offering a unique balance of mechanical strength, puncture resistance and smooth surface. This makes it particularly suitable for form-fill-and-seal (FFS) packaging used for sharp-edged or heavy items such as toys and dry food, spare parts and building materials, and other packaging solutions.

Made from responsibly sourced fresh fibers, the solution as a paper substrate is recyclable in EU paper recycling streams, verified using the 4EG recyclability evaluation protocol. Furthermore, the solution is designed to run on existing converting and filling lines, supporting process efficiency and consistent performance.

“Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible fills a clear gap in the market by combining excellent runnability and high strength with coating-friendly smoothness in one paper,” says Sabrina Klösch, Technical Sales Service at Mondi. “This paper is the result of a close collaboration between our technical sales service, R&D and product development — a strong team effort that reflects our commitment to solving our customers’ technical and sustainability challenges.”

Coveris Introduces Monomaterial Resealable Tray Solution for Refrigerated Foods

As part of its ongoing No Waste mission, Coveris has introduced a new resealable monomaterial tray solution designed for refrigerated food applications. The innovative MonoFlexBP tray replaces non-recyclable, mixed-material packaging while ensuring extended shelf life and consumer convenience.

Fresh food products require packaging that maintains quality and allows for easy resealing after opening. Coveris’ MonoFlexBP tray meets this need with an advanced resealing system that allows the tray to be reclosed multiple times, helping to reduce food waste and improve user experience. In addition, Coveris provides thermoformable bottom films that offer excellent product protection and help ensure optimal shelf life for a variety of chilled contents.

“We are extremely pleased to launch MonoFlexBP tray for refrigerated goods. With this sustainable alternative to non-recyclable materials, Coveris continues to lead the way in circular packaging innovation, offering high-performance solutions that address both environmental impact and consumer demand,” commented Katja Killian, BU Flexibles Business Development Director at Coveris.

The MonoFlexBP tray offers excellent sealing performance and ensures reliable resealability for multiple uses. Its user-friendly opening and reclosure system enhances everyday convenience and supports food waste reduction by keeping products fresher for longer.

As a fully recyclable monomaterial solution, it supports environmental goals without compromising product protection or packaging performance. The trays are compatible with existing packaging machinery, ensuring seamless integration for manufacturers.

This solution is ideally suited for processed meats, sausages, dairy products, cheese, and other chilled or refrigerated items. It is available with a high gas barrier to preserve product freshness and integrity.

For added visual appeal and branding flexibility, the trays can be printed using gravure or flexographic methods and are also available with a matt or paper-effect lacquer finish.
