Häagen-Dazs Debuts City Sweets Collection

The Limited-Edition Packaging Created by Chase Design Group

Chase Design Group, the brand design agency, redesigned of the entire Häagen-Dazs line. The agency worked with Brooklyn-based artist, Jade Purple Brown, known for her use of smooth, swirling shapes and bold, playful style, to create the vibrant, colorful package designs.

“The City Sweets series is meant to be different from the original line. Color palettes are more vibrant, typography and photography are bolder and more expressive, however, we were intentional about keeping a similar sense of flow and movement to the tapestry found on core packages,” says Paula Hansanugrum, executive creative director, Chase Design Group. “Jade’s style was perfect for marrying her patterns with our design,” she adds.

Ornate backgrounds for the five patterns express the mood and flavor of each dessert while allowing the brandmark, typography, and photography to stand out. “Anchoring the design is the consistent logo placement, style of photography, and signature burgundy lids. The type style boldly stands out while a custom script highlights the unique flavors,” explains Jon Arriaza, senior design director, Chase Design Group.

heat sealable paper on soap

Cortec Announces Recyclable EcoShield Heat Sealable Paper

EcoShield® Heat Sealable Paper is a packaging product coated with a water-based heat sealable adhesive coating, which forms seams when the paper is heated with coated sides together (typical seal strength = 1.2±0.3 lb/in [5.2±1.3 N/25.4 mm] per ASTM F88-99). This sealing feature allows the user to create countless customized packaging configurations:

  • Bags
  • Sleeves
  • Banding
  • Tags
  • Other creative formats

The coating is non-hazardous and repulpable, and EcoShield Heat Sealable Paper can be disposed and reprocessed through standard recycling procedures. This is a huge advantage over the many single-use plastic bags of all sizes that come in kits or shipping boxes and must be thrown away in the trash once they have been opened. For further customization and branding, the paper can be printed with company names and logos.

Pantone packaging library

X-Rite, Pantone and Sun Chemical Release New Eco-Kraft Corrugated Packaging Library for PantoneLIVE

X-Rite Incorporated, Pantone LLC, and Sun Chemical announce a new Eco-Kraft corrugated board dependent color library for PantoneLIVE, a cloud-based digital color standard ecosystem. The new library enables converters to set achievable expectations to produce Pantone color standards on corrugated board made from recycled materials.

Now available as part of the PantoneLIVE Production — Print and Packaging subscription, the Eco-Kraft library was built using a brown Kraft substrate with a substantially higher recycled content than in the previous libraries. The result is a base substrate color that is more chromatic. This new library captures the closest achievable match to the core Pantone Matching System colors that can be produced on Eco-Kraft substrate using water-based inks and flexographic printing.

With over 84,000 Pantone color choices for the top packaging and printing applications, PantoneLIVE enables brand owners, designers, and printers to feel confident in selecting color standards that are achievable in production, resulting in improved speed to market and reduced press approvals, waste and rework.

Fasten jar

FASTEN Introduces Sustainable Refillable Jar

FASTEN and a leading global beauty solutions provider, has introduced its REfill REuse REpeat, a sustainable, refillable cosmetic jar system ideal for cream skincare and makeup products.

FASTEN’s REfill REuse REpeat jar is made entirely of one material, recycled polypropylene (PP). All parts are fully recyclable, which ensures a circular economy aims to repurpose waste as a resource for manufacturing new products and materials. The concept comprises a lightweight, open outer jar base in conjunction with an ultra-light, thermoformed refill cup. The refill is inserted inside the base with one click and removed just as easily. To distinguish between creams, differing colors can be used for the refill cup.

FASTEN designed its REfill REuse REpeat jar to be 70 percent lighter than comparable standard cream jars, and the refill units were made stackable. The result is a drastic increase in space consolidation and substantial reduction in shipping weight. Combined, these factors lead to a significantly reduced supply chain CO2 footprint.
